Duck hunting with my retriever and Wavewalk 700 hunting kayak

By Chris Henderson

A solid day on the mud flats.
Torrie, my retriever, improved over last time, and is starting to get this game figured out. Some work to do to finish the retrieves, but we will get there! She has not had a lot of practice with the whole transition from water to land holding the bird.
Can’t beat the weather or the birds! Wigeon whistle worked like a charm.

Traveling 1,800 miles with my Wavewalk S4 on a trailer

I have had little exposure yet. I have troublesome hands and the 5 hp outboard was a little wearing to manipulate (it’ll go as a kicker on another boat in the family). I’ve ordered a Honda 2.3 as I need another kicker and would like to try this on the S4. I think I’ll like it better but will use the boat differently as a result.

Not much in the way of mods, some lighting and tie downs.
The trailer bunks will have to be lowered to get this to float the kayak w/o putting the truck in the water.

This rig just traveled 1,800 miles w/o a hitch. Trailers beautifully.

This boat can be many things to many people and that’s different in a boat.

Boat cover for the Wavewalk S4

Keeping your motorized kayak or motorboat outside, motor on and ready to launch anytime, requires some protection from rain. The simple solution is a cover made from a polyethylene tarp attached with shock cords (bungees).
This tarp covers the S4 outboard motor and motor, including the full size spray shield.
Adding a few grommets to the tarp offers more precision in tailoring it to fit the boat.

Simple and effective, easy, and inexpensive.

PFD, anchor, manual bilge pump, fuel can and paddles are all stored on board, in the hulls.

Full size spray shield for S4 Microskiff

The challenge: Keeping the front passenger dry when driving your S4 at full speed in choppy water.
The solution: Outfitting your S4 with a spray shield that’s big enough.

Wavewalk S4 outfitted with a full size spray shield and carrying a wheel cart on its deck. This wheel cart has an extension that can fit into the second slot in the S4’s front deck.

We used a 48″ x 24″ x 0.093″ Makrolon (Polycarbonate) sheet cut into three sections to create a 90″ long, 16″ high spray shield. This material is available at Home Depot.
We assembled the sections using Goop adhesive and rivets.
We attached the spray shield to the S4 deck using eyelets and short bungees.

This full size spray shield offers some protection from spray to the passenger occupying the front end of the cockpit. This said, we don’t necessarily recommend these large-size accessories, since wearing a light plastic raincoat would be more effective.

Warning: Stay away from Acrylic sheets because this material is too rigid for this kind of application, and it will develop cracks as soon as you start cutting it.
