Very impressive setup. Sungjin found the sweet spot for turning the W kayak into a W boat. The boat moves effortlessly, with very little apparent turbulence.
Any idea what’s that water jet shooting up from between the hulls?
Sungjin’s work is indeed inspiring, and I can’t stop smiling each time I watch this video 🙂
That upward pointing wake seems to be generated by the propeller shaft moving at a high speed through the straight current flowing between the hulls.
The water at this point has nowhere to go but upward.
In other boats, where the propeller shaft is mounted at the stern, the turbulence from the hull’s rear end is so big that it masks the wake created by the propeller shaft.

This 2hp Honda marine motor displaces 57cc, and the Makita blower features a 75cc motor.
The Honda motor costs $700 to $800, and the Makita goes for about about half this price.
I think both concepts are good, except the air-jet propulsion system needs to wait for the blower market to advance, while the outboard motor concept is fully mature, as Sungjin has successfully demonstrated.

Great set up, but if you hit the hulls, chop chop chop!!
Move that bad boy to the end of the hulls, get an extension for the gas motor throttle and look Out!! 🙂

Rox’ comment is very important, and any safety hazard must be properly addressed.
Generally speaking, one needs to be extra careful when motorizing kayaks, because the propeller can easily cut through the plastic wall.
