  1. Thanks Larry,

Your diligent effort to keep the mangroves in Key Largo clean is laudable.
    I salute you!

And the pictures are great too 🙂

  2. Hey every little bit helps.

I do a little clean up if I come across trash.

But that’s big, what ever that thing is. 🙂

Tight lines and MoPaddle Safe all.

  3. Impressive, isn’t it? 😀
Looks like a good size mooring buoy.

  4. Rox and Yoav,

This is my third Federal buoy that I have brought in from the mangroves. The first one took a month and a half for someone to pick it up.

The yellow ball signifies a sanctuary boundary. Sanctuaries define No Fishing or Lobstering areas which help replenish seafood populations. This buoy has a big gouge, likely from a prop strike, and will probably cost more for the Feds to fix than secure a new one.

Providing sanctuary zones is a really good way to reduce user conflicts between divers and fishermen as well as increasing fish stocks. However, those areas should be designed with a great degree of common sense which is often uncommon in places controlled by Congress.

But, lately, things have been getting a lot better…
