First family fishing day for the Wavewalk S4: Five passengers on board

By Chris Henderson

Northern Tribe Outdoors

Well it was time for the Annual Family Fishing Day. Once again we went to Lake Devereaux and the trout were plentiful and willing. However, the weather was not so nice! We had squalls blowing through all day long. At times it was brutal wet and cold, and then 15 min. later it was sunny and warm! Crazy spring weather which is typical around here but this is the first time we have had it show up on family fishing day.

Used the S4 this year and the sheer ability to fish more people made it invaluable. I was in it all day. No motorized vessels on this lake so I just paddled which was fine even though the wind made it a challenge at times.

All worth it though to watch kids catch fish.

Enjoy

Last duck hunt of the season on the mud flats

By Chris Henderson

Fishing Kayaks of Gig Harbor

I went on another duck hunt. The mud flats are punishing at times. The tide went from a 14 to a 4 in six hours. That meant that I had to move and reset my decoys every 15 min. or so. Eventually toward the bottom of the tide it takes longer to reset than the water floats the decoys to hunt. That is usually when I give up and let it come back in. Today however it would not have done so in the light, so I had to paddle out at the low. It was a drag getting the boat out to water deep enough to float. But that is what I love about the W700. Stable for the weather and light enough to drag on the mud. Only got a couple of birds but it is always good to get out.

Enjoy,

Family Fishing Day

By Chris Henderson

Fishing Kayaks of Gig Harbor

We had a beautiful day for our annual Family Fishing Day!
Every year the State of Washington does a Fish Washington Free day to promote and encourage fishing in our state. Our church (Wellspring Fellowship) also wants to encourage great families and family time, and there are few activities better than going fishing!
So we gather up the Wavewalks and anything else that floats and take folks fishing!
We had two W700s and a W500 taking out kids and adults to catch fish. Some were catching their first fish ever. There is nothing quite so satisfying as watching kids catch fish. At first they are scared to touch them but it doesn’t take long and they want to hold them. I spent 12 hours on the water and lost track of the number of trout that I helped kids and adults catch.
What a great day!

First Fishing Trip of 2017: Kokanee were a no show but the trout wanted to play

By Chris Henderson

Fishing Kayaks of Gig Harbor

Remodel season (the season in between ducks and fishing) is officially over! The honeydos are certainly not all accomplished but I have enough off of the list that I was able to get out and go fishing. American Lake is open year around so there is not big fishing season opening day on this lake but it was my opening day.

It was windy and gusty which made it a challenge to keep a real constant speed (something the kokanee like) but I was able to make it work.
The kokanee were a no show (it is early in the year to catch them consistantly) but fortunately the trout wanted to play!

Great day on the water in a W700.

Enjoy
