A snook almost too big for my measuring board – 1st place in the tournament

By Gary Rankel

Nature Coast Kayak Fishers

I just happened to catch my biggest snook in 12 years, this 35 incher that was almost too big for my measuring board. To top it off, I got her during our annual catch-photo-release kayak fishing tournament, leading to a first place finish for biggest fish, a nice trophy, a new fishing rod, and a $200 check.

Life is good.

BTW, another little known benefit of the Wavewalk, is its cockpit design which better supports a measuring board while photographing fish prior to release. This task really requires 3 hands, and is much more difficult to accomplish in mono-hull yaks where it’s harder to stand up or, otherwise, get farther away from the fish with a camera to capture it entirely on the board, while keeping it from jumping off, so judges can verify its length.

Maybe it will be possible to have a measuring device inscribed or attached to the platform of your new S-4 vessel, making it even easier to get this job done.

Fishing standing in two fishing tournaments, and getting results

By Joe Stauder

HBBCO Kayaks

It took a couple of fishing tournaments for me to get into the swing of things. But the last two I finished 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Standing up to fish is almost an unfair advantage compared to the other guys on their sit on top kayaks.

They won’t admit it, but due to their sitting position they just can’t be as accurate when casting, and they sure can’t see their targets like I can, when I am standing in my Wavewalk. Sure once in a while some do stand up for short periods of time (when the water is glass calm), but not all day, like they’re in a bass boat. Like I can!

Judging by its size, this fish is 15-16 years old.
Had this striper been 3 inches longer and 8 lbs heavier, it would have won Frank the $100,000 “Fish of a Lifetime” prize.
Maybe next year? 🙂

Wavewalk 500 F2 first prize at the Hudson River Striped Bass Derby

The Hudson River Fisherman’s Association (HRFA) is offering a Wavewalk 500 F2 and W paddle as first prize in its annual Hudson River Striped Bass Derby that will take place on April 26 – 27, 2014.
-“This fishing tournament attracts striper anglers from as far as North Carolina” Says Fred Rung, HRFA Vice president.

The second prize in this tournament is $500 in cash, and the third prize is $250.

This striper fishing tournament has been taking place for many years, and it is open to all anglers, and not necessarily just to kayak anglers.
This is one of the primary reasons that prompted Wavewalk to donate a W kayak and paddle to serve as first prize in it. The idea is to show that the W500 is more than a fishing kayak, and it can be appreciated by anglers who fish out of various motorboats, and not just out of kayaks, even in big northern rivers such as the Hudson.
