John and Jeanne Exploring Fox River By Kayak, And Catching Fish Too – Wisconsin

Jeanne asked if I wanted to get some exercise and explore some stretches of river that we haven’t paddled before. Yes was my answer and we put the W’s in the truck and headed off for more exploration. This was just intended to be a touring trip but I always seem to take one fishing rod along, I can’t help it.
It was a stretch of the Fox river that I figured would be scenic but not hold many game fish.
The water was very stained as I predicted and I spotted many carp moving about. We approached a bridge and I couldn’t resist putting the paddle down and fishing the current break with my jointed Rapala. As I retrieved my lure near the boat I was startled by a set of jaws almost jumping into my W and grabbing my lure! I could not see what grabbed it because of the splash and because I almost jumped up in the air seeing jaws appearing last second out of the stained water! Much to my surprise it was a frisky Catfish. It was a first for me, catfish on a floating minnow bait and first cat in the W. I still had hope for maybe a bass or pike in this dark water. Then we spotted some back water that seemed to be blocked by brush and tree branches. I figured it is time to take advantage of the W’s ability to climb over obstacles. Bingo, it paid off again, getting into tough spots with the W. I found an area holding Largemouth bass and had fun catching them on the surface. What a blast! Continue reading

River Rescue Operation Standing Up In A Fishing Kayak – Wisconsin

Says John -”I have noticed another advantage of the Wavewalk kayak. A trip does not go by without me finding lures in trees that other fishermen are not able to reach from their conventional kayak on streams and rivers. Even on lakes where boats can’t get in shallow near the shoreline and retrieve hung up lures, I can retrieve them via my Wavewalk. Today’s catch, one beetle spin and one bobber.” Continue reading

Yak Bassin in Wisconsin (Movie) – John Fab. WI

It proves again that you don’t necessarily need a 50 grand bass boat to catch big bass, and yet be comfortable and dry while you’re doing it, which you can’t be if you fish from kayaks other than the W.
John caught this magnificent largemouth bass in very shallow water (see movie) – John says that his W kayak would take him to spots where no other boat can go, including other fishing kayaks. It has to do with the fact that you can launch the W practically anywhere, and go with it over obstacles in shallow water, as well as stand up in it anytime you want, and scout for passages in the thick vegetation, and sometime even push pole in very skinny water – One of the reasons why a long and sturdy W kayak paddle is more practical than other paddles.

Review of W300 Fishing Kayak, by Chris Ott, Massachusetts

I can’t help but comment on what others have already mentioned and that is the dry entry and exit from the kayak. This is one of the big advantages of this kayak. Yesterday the person removing his Jon boat had to jump into the water with his rubber boots on to get the boat up on shore. I just paddled up, leaned back and then hopped to dry land in my sneakers after gliding to a stop. The ease of the exit did not go unnoticed to the fellow wading in 40°F water. The Wavewalk allows me to fish with the independence I was looking for. It is a great kayak that I will enjoy for years to come. Continue reading
