Bob and I did do the Demo Day at the bayou last week but due to weather conditions, we had to scale it back to one day. Anytime we can get out on the water, it’s a “good thing”!
I stopped at a Wal-Mart on the way and picked up this white patio chair for $8.88 plus tax.. We now have equipped a W-kayak with a Captains Chair for under ten dollars!!

fishing kayak outfitted with patio chair, Bayou TexasIt’s actually very comfortable to paddle in and very stable on the water. I think the stability is due to the fact your body weight is distributed over a larger area because of the placement of the legs/feet of the chair.
I thought it would have been more “tippy” because you are sitting a few inches higher than the saddle but the opposite is true.
Also attached is one of the other reasons I love being on the water… The wild life on the bayou is much different and the only real way to get close to it is to be on the water.

Boyd salvaged a pair of wheels from an broken golf cart, got some 2×2 wood and $10 of hardware, and created his version of kayak trolley, which serves the purpose perfectly.

People everywhere ask Boyd and Sandy “What is this boat?”, so Boyd added the series number 500 to the W logo…

And this is Boyd’s idea of supreme comfort, for when he just wants to lay back and get some rest after a long paddle: A seat with armrests and beads in the back rest:

The seat can be folded, and stored in one of the hulls, so it won’t get in the way when Boyd is paddling.

After stopping for breakfast on our way back, Ed showed off the seat he crafted using some plastic material attached to the bottom of a boat seat, which then slid over the saddle, and held in place with a piece of rubber sheeting. A pretty slick arrangement and really comfy. Ed also mounted his compass and rod holder on another piece of plastic screwed down on the front of the saddle.
Dick showed off his wood frame that slips into the saddle groove to hold it in place.
For those not needing a back rest, the 1/2 inch thick self adhesive foam pads I’ve mounted on my W provide nice cushioning, and also can be pressed down anywhere on the saddle
to create a non-skid surface.
Now, if we can just figure out how to mount a wide-screen TV across the hulls for those days when the fish aren’t biting :D

My wife thinks I am addicted to the W… and fishing…I think she may be right.

The second set of pix shows my seat rigging. Seat and swivel base were bought at Academy for under $20. Mounted on 1X10 with a second strip at the back end of the 1X10 that makes it 1.5 in thick so it can snugly wedge under the lip in the back of the W. Lay a couple of 8″ broom stick or 3/4″ dowels in the two adjoining seat channels, place the 1X10 on top(before you mount the seat.) Run a couple of screws (or bolts) it to the dowels. Now the seat can be moved back or forth, depending where you want to sit in the cockpit.

Ps. the Pvc in the pipe collars is the pipe that holds the transducer for the fish/depth fined. It can be flipped up when landing or in shallow water. The wire is run up to the monitor in front under the lip of the cockpit.

It’s cold (44 degrees and rainy today. 25 degrees below normal, but we are getting some much needed rain)

I just got back in from my maiden voyage this year out with the WW kayak.  Our dog Josey did great in the new chair that my husband built for her…it fits right into the grooves of the WW kayak and I use a bungee to secure it to the boat.  Here are the pics I took today.  Hard to believe there was ice out there just a week ago!
