The flip over wheel system is most ingenious, and the coolest looking, in my opinion. Only problem I see is that fishing lines could get caught in it.

I still say the easiest/most convenient transport wheel design is the 'flip over' concept that I stole from the British W yaker with the 2 cycle outboard. The fact that it stays mounted to the W means that you don't have to worry about storing it aboard the W or risk losing it if you have to hide it on the shore. It's always there when you need to use it.

I'm not a big fan of outriggers, because in order to offer enough initial, or primary stability they need to be very close to the water. This means that they do touch the water on occasion, especially if the water is choppy, and that's not good for tracking.
If they're not close to the water, we're already dealing with a secondary stability issue, and only large size outriggers can help you then. As we know, big outriggers can't be lightweight, and they tend to catch the wind.

Just curious - what are you planning to do when your sea kayak capsizes? The outriggers will prevent you from rolling it, and you'll get entrapped: http://wavewalk.com/blog/2008/01/29/getting-trapped-in-a-kayak/

I own a 17 ' sea kayak. It is fast, and very unstable. 21 " across the beam. I bought a pair of outriggers which are adjustable up, down and sideways. They stay out of the water untill they are needed and therefore they do not decrease my speed. They weigh 15 lbs. I do not sacrifice anything but a small amount of weight. I can take them on or off in less than one minute. I would not go without them. I can also practice bracing without the fear of rolling over. I have been in some very rough seas and have yet not had any problems.

Wow Yoav, the old step dragging video. Still do the same thing I think my loaded W500 from the truck is the fastest yak to the water of anything fished there. I tried my wheels set up there once since the dragging never hurt the boat on sand why add another item. Besides that fine sand keeps my bottom nice and smooth after coming in with loads of oyster bed scars. The reality of any of the scratches is as you mentioned overblown.

As it warms here in Florida more and more kayak anglers will be wandering the banks looking for relief. The sight of those poor bent over half crippled anglers who vainly wish for a comfortable fishing day is so sad. To spend all that money to buy a kayak then toss another couple of hundred into a seat that feels really good for about 2 hours at the most is just wrong. Right now we are seeing bargain basement prices for kayaks that frankly offer little in the way of fishing time. What good is it to buy a boat even on sale that you spend little time in.

Okay, but for some fishermen fishing serves as a practical, temporary refuge from domestic persecution... After all, the wife can't tell you what to do when you're on the water, can she? :D

Well, there isn't a wheel product that we can recommend, unfortunately. If there was one, we would have considered offering it.
However, have a look at this video that Jeff shot of himself dragging his old W300 from the beach and up wooden stairs and a ramp:

It's not that difficult. A plastic lid could protect the part of the kayak hulls that's in contact with the ground from scratching, which in itself is a problem that's often blown out of proportion.

This is a good article for diy aficionados. Too bad wavewalk doesn't offer a wheel cart of its own.
Do you have a recommendation for a product made by others?

There's nothing amusing about pain, IMO
Whether it's leg pain, back pain or butt pain, it's a serious matter, especially if you're kayakoholic like myself, or fisholic.

It was a nice looking piece and that magazine is standard waiting for the wife reading fare at all Wal-Marts and Publix grocery stores in the South East. It was nice to be there at the rack reading about the W500 proudly wearing my well seasoned W hat. I think right now that fishing magazine might well be the thickest one still on the shelves.

Thanks, parts could be purchased at any hardware store: parts list would include one 36" x 1/2" aluminum tube, one 36" x 3/4" aluminum tube (both will need to be cut) two aluminum shelf brackets and mounting hardware (1 1/4" works), two plastic wheels (no bearings, will spin on the 1/2" tube), four 1/2" washers inside and outside of wheels and two cotter pins to secure the wheels. The bungee cord runs through a U hook I mounted on the W when I first bought it and has proven to have a variety of uses (anchor line, straps when transporting and now wheels) The U hook utilizes an aluminum plate and rubber washers behind (aluminum plate should be as big as will fit approx. 5"x5", will not be seen since it is inside the W) and rubber washers on top to decrease any stress to the ABS of the W300.
