I have made some modifications to the motor mount designs out there, and this is what I have come up with. I have to thank Bruce Ramsey at Action Marine and Welding in Cape Coral for the fine aluminum work.
The wood used in the mount is Oak, which I will be treating with a Marine Grade Finish. I have added two bolts on each side for increased stability.
I also made some gaskets out of an old tire and cut them to fit between the mount plates and the Kayak to reduce any potential vibration and slippage.
The Oak was used on the mounting plate to increase traction for the motor. On the back side there are 2 layers of 1/2″ oak. One of the layers has 1 and 1/2″ holes cut out where the mounting screws for the motor can be inset. In the unlikely event of these bolts coming loose, this will prevent the motor from slipping to the side.
If you would like to order one for yourself call or email me at Florida Fishing Kayaks, Cape Coral.
$235 is the price of this mount. This is only designed for the 20″ Honda 2 HP.
Jeff

While looking in an old PC, I found these photos that Rox sent me back in 2006
They show Rox’ catch, and her green W300 kayak (early version).
They are among the first pictures that kayak anglers started sending me back then, and I was very happy to get them!
A couple years later, in 2008, I started this blog, and since then, Rox’ contribution to it has been huge.
The reason I decided to publish this stuff is because Rox is suffering from an injury in her shoulder that prevents her from fishing, and I thought these pictures would cheer her up a little

Gary Thorberg, who has already designed several fishing kayak motor mounts, both for electric motors and outboard gas engines, has come up with a new, simpler and more effective design for an electric trolling motor mount:

If you live in Minnesota, you can contact Gary at MinnYaks, W fishing kayaks dealership in Minnesota, and ask for a test ride in this great looking kayak.
Gary is an avid fly angler who fishes mostly standing up in his kayak. His favorite fish species is muskie.

Sungjin Kim, Wavewalk’s distributor of fishing kayaks in South Korea, published a comprehensive article on the subject of transportation wheel for the W kayak.
In his article, Sungjin shows solutions developed by W kayakers around the world – From small wheels that fit into a hull tip once the kayak is in the water, to huge, inflatable wheels that double as extra flotation on the water.
Here is a wheel solution that one of Sungjin’s clients came up with. It’s small, lightweight, and can be attached to the W kayak without installing extra hardware. It’s also easy and quick to attach and detach.

I took my wavewalk kayak on a fishing trip for the first time this week.
Launching out of Serenia Vista park in Cape Coral, a park dedicated to kayaking and kayak fishing, complete with trailer parking was the perfect choice.
It is a very short paddle to highly productive mangroves that hold snook, redfish and a host of other species.
I paddled for about five minutes and pulled up to a flat where I decided to give it a go. Within a few minutes I had caught my first fish. It was a 20 inch snook that leaped out of the water and put on a full show. I quickly realized for myself that one of the great things about the wavewalk kayak is the ability to stand up at will when a fish strikes. For any serious fisherman it’s a natural reaction. I caught a few other fish during the afternoon, included a nice size mangrove snapper that I took home for dinner.
