“A remora, sometimes called a suckerfish or sharksucker, is an elongated, brown fish that grow to 30–90 centimetres long (1–3 ft), and their distinctive first dorsal fin takes the form of a modified oval sucker-like organ with slat-like structures that open and close to create suction and take a firm hold against the skin of larger marine animals. By sliding backward, the remora can increase the suction, or it can release itself by swimming forward. Remoras sometimes attach to small boats. They swim well on their own, with a sinuous, or curved, motion.
Remoras are primarily tropical open-ocean dwellers, occasionally found in temperate or coastal waters if they have attached to large fish that have wandered into these areas.”
Right, Yoav. We also call them hitchhiker fish as they are often seen attached to sharks and other fish. Part of the fun of fishing down here is you never know what will bite next.
Hi Rox……….Bob has a place near Kennebunkport, ME, and fishes in the Atlantic there.
He tells me that he has run into former President Bush on the water and given him a few pointers (I assume on fishing, not foreign policy).
Yoav……….It was Bush 41 (the older one) who Bob mentioned having seen a few times, once even with President Clinton. I wonder how many security vessels were in the area on that occasion.
I looked up Remora, and here is what I found:

Nice catch!

Interesting catch, but I guess this fish isn’t edible, is it?
cool fish!
I never heard of anyone eating one and think I’ll pass.
Nice job landing those fish!
That is one weird looking fish.
Where is Bob going????
Maybe we can get together to fish if he is in my neck of the woods.
Tight lines and Paddle Safe all.

Bush I or II, or both?
They have a summer residence there, but I doubt they fish from kayaks…
Bob fly fishes from his W500 both in freshwater and in the ocean:

It’s nice to see those two two elder statesmen getting along so well with each other
