Gary: Finally, a Good Day Kayak Fishing – Florida

Finally, after many slow days, I came home with a sore arm. Three over-slot redfish (shots of two attached), plus a bunch of bluefish and jack crevalle which had large schools of baitfish busting water all around me. Lots of misses too.

I’ll be heading out lots before the oil arrives. At least if I bring a fish home to fry up, I won’t have to add oil to the pan. BTW, Yoav, how does the W perform in an oil slick? Seriously, this whole thing just makes me sick.

    Beautiful fish!

Good question! -Oil shouldn’t be a problem at all with any kayak that’s molded form Polyethylene, as most kayaks today are, including W kayaks, which are molded using the highest grade of Polyethylene.
Just for general information, polyethylene is also commonly used for molding fuel tanks, chemical tanks and other types of containers that require durability and resistance to chemicals such as oil-based solvents.

However, if you happen to own one of those spiffy, hand-molded ‘composite’ kayaks you might have a problem, because some of them are molded from resins that do not resist very well the effect of solvents, such as oil.

    Beautiful fish Gary. :)

I’m praying the the oil doesn’t reach your waters.

It makes us all sick, I can’t believe the mess and destruction of our precious
    waters.
The ruined lives, fishing, shell fish, all of it, destroyed for years to come.

I was kidding, of course – don’t think my topwater lures would attract too many fish lurking below the oil. I do have a soft jerkbait in a motor oil color, however.

Gary, I hope you came home with more than just a sore arm… The fish look like they could become a great meal!

Couldn’t bring em home, Mike as they were over the slot size of 18-27 inches. One was 28, one was 29 and one was 30. I’d rather catch the big boys anytime and let them go rather than hook up with the little fellows.

Thanks, Rox……..all prayers are much appreciated. To think the oil will be gushing out for another 2 months or more is just too much. This is going to be a really bad one.
