Doug had already contributed a short review of his W300 fishing kayak:
-”Just came in from a couple hours in the inlet after work — 1 14# bass. Got a 30 and a 16 last Sat night. I don’t fish from it too often; I might throw a swimmer out on my way to and fro. For the season so far I have around 75 bass over 10#/30″. I’m running second place in the season long New York Surf Fishing contest. I’m totally satisfied with the Wavewalk. If I wreck this one somehow I’ll order another within a week. It gets me access to good fishing areas and it gets me away from the crowds. Only ‘problem’ is I put a couple pretty deep gouges on the bottom while fishing in mussel beds and around rock jetties –

Now Doug sent us some pictures of a special kayak trolley he got for it:
Says Doug:
-”Here are some photos of a cart special made by paddlecart.com I use it all the time. Works over rough terrain, rocks, down embankments, etc”
-”Attached is the drawing I sent to Paddlecart in case users inquire” :

That’s a neat, professional looking, custom made rig. It looks like it could go anywhere.

Doug,
Your cart looks like it was designed especially for the W kayak. Amazing! Looks like it was designed to support a lot of weight too. Perfect for pulling your W over miles of sand searching for striper action. How much did it set you back?

I think with the custom modification, which amounted to adding the inside brace and two uprights, it came to $200. Steep, but the utility added is worth it for me.
Paddlecart did it up in real short order.
Doug,
Looks like they did a good job. This cart should last for many years.
Yoav
Thats a great W cart!!!!
Doug, I don’t think thats toooooo steep of a price, it will
last a life time and protect that W from damage and your back from dragging and carrying it.
Yoav………………maybe your company can add yak carts like this to
your site!!!!!!!!!!!
Safe paddling all
Rox
Or better yet………..make them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rox
Hi Rox,
As you can see in the outfitting section, different W kayak owners prefer different transport solutions for their boat – from wheels to carts, and even sleds…
I guess it’s a personal thing, like paddle holders
That makes it hard to come up with one or two products that would fit all requirements.
Yoav
I think there are so many transport solutions because kayakers try to use whatever they can cobble together. I am sure there is a market for transport solutions, especially if they don’t cost an arm and a leg. The problem with using one that is on the market for the W500 is the radically different shape might be a problem. I notice the one that started this thread was modified by its manufacturer – i.e. cobbled together somewhat.
