3 W Kayak Anglers Fishing Together in Ozello, Florida

Here’s a picture I took of Jeff McGovern and Ed Wheeler yesterday in Ozello, Florida.

Fishing was a little slow, but Jeff managed to get a few trout and a whole bunch of lizard fish.

We had a great day weatherwise, and I enjoyed getting together with a couple of other wave walkers…

That’s quite an unusual sight :)

Doesn’t look that cold down there if these yakkers can stand in the water

Actually the water was warm enough for swimming if one was inclined. But with the rough bottom it would not have been wise. We wear lots of clothing for two reasons, sun protection and bug protection. There are a variety of small biting insects best refered to as flying teeth sometimes in areas out of a breeze. The section we were fishing has lots of tidal influence so at high tide most of the area that appears to be a beach would have been under water.

Yeh, Raul……..We’ve got it pretty tough down here. Air temps in the 80′s and water temps in the 70′s – looks like another hard Florida winter.

    Hey fellas,
Are any of you guys interested in a seasonal house swap? Here in Rochester, NY we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground, with temps in the low 20′s, although with the wind chill it’s more like about 10 or 15 degrees. Perfect weather for ice fishing. Tell you what, I’ll even sweeten the deal by throwing in an ice auger (for cutting a hole in the ice) and some tip-ups! Jeff, those short rods of yours would make nice ice jigging rods, so plan on bringing a few.
None of those pesky ‘flying teeth’ here either. Closest thing we have is chattering teeth.
First guy I hear from gets the swap!

    Thank you John,
Your description of the weather in upstate NY makes me feel like Eastern Massachusetts is almost a subtropical paradise :)

Hey John…..I’m from Green Bay – Been there, done that.

  8. Jeff McGovern says:

    Hey John,
Hmm, topwater fishing on the ice. Not so bad unless PETA finds out you are dojng it. They say it gives the fish too many issues with head and brain injuries from trying to hit that topwater plug as it dances across the ice. They keep smashing their head into the underside and risk serious injury or even death. But let me say winter in Florida is no piece of cake either. There are times we have to wear long pants to fight off the 60 degree cold fronts and winds. Besides all that sun is bad, you risk age lines around your eyes even with sun glasses. Oh and all the sand. let me tell you everything you own gets gritty. Let’s not forget that once outside virtually everthing bites, stings, or sticks you. As anglers our tackle requires far more care so extra time must be spent dealing with that issue instead of just fishing every day. Living here is a burden we all accept graciously and by passing on the real truth about being here can only hope we can save others from our fate.
