Yes, Stabilizers would be a must with a 2.5 hp gas outboard.

And remember, you'll have to have all the safety equipment,
such as a PFDs , fire extinguishers that are fully charged, flares, ect.

When you add a gas powered motor it's a whole new ball game.

Be smart, and most of all Be Safe.

Lee,

Going back to our email conversations, I think that in your case a gas engine would be a better solution, because a powerful electric motor could drain your battery while you're still too far to paddle back.
As for the model, the W500 is the one I'd recommend to you, because it's more stable, and has a higher load capacity than the W300.
With a 2.5 HP motor you'd better outfit the boat with stabilizers, because you'll be going really fast :D

HAVE BEEN THINKING OF GETTING THE 300 WW -- AND DEBATING IF I SHOULD PUT A TROLLING MOTOR ON IT OR A 2.5 4 STROKE SUZUKI OUTOBARD ON IT.

I NEED TO POWER IT WITH ONE OR THE OTHER AS I TRAVEL 2-15 MILES TO MY FLATS FISHING SITES ON THE GULF COAST OF FL.

10 MPH SOUNDS FAST FOR A TROLLING MOTOR. WHICH MOTOR ARE YOU USING?

Nice job on Landing those beautiful fish.
Glad to see you use that W300 with a trolling motor toooooooooo!
Sometimes zipping around letting the trolling motor do the work for you is a blast.
Your dog looks very comfy riding in the W. :)

Happy Paddling

I see a guy having a blast and that is what it is all about. We do see folks here in Florida with dogs in their yaks too but all of them have stories about gators going after them. The experienced folks keep an eye on the dogs and are tough with discipline. The inexperienced folks tell their kids the dog must have run away and pick up another one. For a kayaker who takes a dog on the water the W offers great protection for the animal and control for the owner.l
