Seat for a W Fishing Kayak

It’s very easy to attach a regular kayak seat, or canoe seat, or stadium seat to the W kayak saddle: You can create attachment points by drilling holes in the cockpit rim and top side of the saddle.
Some people have done it, as one can see in on website’s kayak reviews section.

Having said that, most W kayak owners don’t use a seat or a back rest, and even those who’ve added one to their W kayak end up not using it most of the time, because you basically don’t need a back rest in this kayak. This is due to the fact that in the preferred paddling and fishing position (Riding) your own legs support you.
This is true for standing too, of course.

If I wanted to attach a yak seat to the w, what would be the best way to do it?? Could i use screws?

  2. admin says:

Screws won’t work, but you can use bolts and nuts, or aluminum rivets.
You can also use straps, as well as bungee cords with hooks or preferably with carabiners, so they won’t come out.

I used a seat a couple of times, and then discarded it because I found it blocked my way into the cockpit, and I could no longer move fore and aft on the saddle. Besides, I’m fine without any kind of backrest, and my back feels better.

I’ve spent hours at a time in the W using the riding position most of the time and never felt the need for a back support type seat. The upright postion the boat offers pretty much takes care of the need for any type of aftermarket seat. Besides with the W you never have to worry about forgetting your seat which can ruin a day on the water in almost every other kayak out there.

No seats needed for me either, they just get in the way.

One thing I do use in the colder months is a Hot Seat, from the hunting
    section of any store.

Keeps my butt warm, and will last forever. :)
