Hi Joe,

At 160 lbs you have the choice between the W300 and the W500.
Because of your age I think you'll enjoy the W500 more.

I am 68, weigh 160 lbs. 5'8" tall. I live below the dam at Canyon Lake and want to start fishing upriver and the flats around Port Aransas. Do you think this is the kayak for me?

Gosh I'm glad to see the W500 is a good boat for seniors. I think I now have that status since I automatically get the senoir discount at KFC just by ordering. Anyway the new boat appears to have tracking and speed advantages over the W300 and for some that is an important item. Also the new boat offers the W to a whole new group of larger anglers who love kayak fishing but until now found the W300 too small.

That makes sense since the w500 has a waterline that's twice as long as its two hulls, which makes it track like an arrow... If you raise the bow out of the water you shorten the waterline, and that makes it easier to maneuver. You get the best of both worlds - a "long" boat for tracking, and a "short" boat for tight maneuvers :D
The other way to turn easily is the regular W way, by leaning the boat into the turn.

You don't have to be old to enjoy this kayak but if you are it sure makes getting old easier. I'm 60 years old and had spinal fusion 6 months ago, and I'm doing more now than I ever did. If you want to turn just slide back on the saddle and you can almost spin it.
