John Fabina got his new W fsihing kayak a short time ago, and he already rigged it for the fishing trips he’s planning once the ice is gone…

Says John:
-”I have not been able to access open water yet, but I have been rigging my new “w” kayak for fishing. Using ideas from other owners I have added a crate in the back that includes three rod holders and a net holder. Two [catalog brand] quick draw rod holers have been mounted in front. Also added on the side a hook that is used with the bungee to quickly hold rod on side of the “w”.

-”Finally, I riveted two pieces of aluminum that were fashioned into a paddle holder.”

-”I am still exploring my best options for mounting my portable eagle fish finder. I sure am looking forward to getting on the water and learning about the “w”. I will keep you posted and hopefully have some photos of spring crappies.”

I’m John’s mother. I’ve seen and sat in John’s new boat, also wanting to get a chance to try some fishing with it….
I saw the boat the day it arrived and also now with all the equipment that was added to make the boat ready for the fishing.
Great Job,John…..
Nice rigging! I like the paddle holders – simple and effective.

Working with a net can make things much easier!

Nice job of rigging sir. That W looks great. The poor thing is just crying to get on the water. Set up as it is you’ll find it a very nice boat to fish from. Chances are you’ll outfish a whole bunch of folks driving “stink boats” as we call the motor driven craft here in Florida. You’ll find the drop in style paddle hooks you added very handy when a large fish hits and you have to get the paddle out of the way then secured in a hurry. You might want to try anchor trolly system of the style we use in the south. I use that type of rigging for mine and it really adds a great amount of control. Can’t wait to see your fish pictures once the ice leaves.
Nice Rigging! I’m not sure what you are using the green swim-style “noodles” for on each side. Could you explain those? Thanks !
They are flotation devices, designed to help in case of capsize, and make recovery easier: http://wavewalk.com/blog/2008/03/20/kayak-side-flotation-why-use-it-and-how-does-it-work/

I am very interested in the way you rig your yaks, I plain to fish the marsh and tidal creeks adjacent to the ICW in Bogue sound, Hoop hole creek and the middle marsh along the southern end of the ICW near Swainsboro including the mouth of the White Oak River looking for oister rocks and tidal pools.
Thanks
